Debuting at CES this week is the fully autonomous Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion concept, featuring an aerodynamic body built with carbon fiber, aluminum and high-strength steel, making the vehicle 40-percent lighter than a conventional automobile of its size.
Speaking of which, the body is over 17 feet long with a wheelbase of 142.1 inches, making it almost a foot longer than the new Maybach. Power comes from a hydrogen-electric hybrid drivetrain, generating 272 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0 to 60 MPH sprint time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 120 MPH. Inside the cabin, accessible through suicide doors that open a full 90 degrees, there are four individual bucket seats that pivot toward the doors for easy ingress and egress. The interior is dressed in wood, aluminum, glass and leather, and features six display screens that transform the space into a “digital arena,” complete with gesture-based controls, touch-sensitive screens and eye-tracking technology.
