DKNY x PONY 2015 M-100

When it comes to translating the spirit of the Big Apple it doesn’t get more New York centric than Product of New York (PONY) or Donna Karan New York (DKNY), unless of course the aforementioned brands join forces. We’ll let you in on a little secret: we wouldn’t be writing this article if that hadn’t happened.

So yes, DKNY and PONY have teamed up to redesign PONY’s M-100 sneaker. The original M-100, first released in 1988, was, and still is, largely considered an era classic. Though it sported a high-top basketball silhouette, the sneaker also took inspiration from the “cross-training aesthetic” that was popular at the time.
Now the brand is hoping to create another timeless version of the shoe, this time, with a focus on the runway. The new silhouette is first and foremost slimmer than its forerunner. This was done with the intention of appealing to women who are attracted to more streamlined shoe designs. The collaborating duo has also deconstructed the sneaker’s upper and did away with the slightly bulky padding found in the original shoe. Emphasizing the newly svelte silhouette is a minimalist tonal white colorway and luxe leather construction. To add a bit of texture, designers also added an embossed snakeskin pattern with diamond perforated panels, which they complemented with hand-rolled seam edges.
The sneakers will be available for $250 through PONY retailers starting July 3.
