Nike has long enjoyed a cozy relationship with the National Basketball Association, and starting with the 2017 – 2018 NBA season the two will become official partners, thanks to an eight-year global merchandising and marketing partnership that makes Nike the league’s official oncourt apparel provider.
(German brand adidas, which had an inked an 11-year deal with the NBA back in 2006, preemptively announced in March that it would not seek to extend its contract.) As part of the arrangement, Nike will become the first apparel company that’s allowed to put its logo on NBA uniforms. Nike had already been a marketing partner for the WNBA since its inception in 1997, and now the Beaverton-based giant will have an expanded presence at WNBA All-Star and other events throughout the season. Additionally, Nike will also become a marketing partner of the NBA Development League (NBA D-League).
